The Kingdom of Bahrain, Ancient and modern, traditional and contemporary, classical and cutting edge known throughout its illustrious history as the ‘Land of Eternal Life’ and the ‘Pearl of the Arabian Gulf’, is situated on the eastern Arabian Peninsula near the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.With an area of approximately 780 square kilometers, Bahrain is made up of 33 islands that overlook the Arabian Gulf. The flourishing, lively island nation is a leading economic centre that attracts major business investments at both regional and global levels.
As part of Vision 2030, the Kingdom has escalated efforts to strengthen the position of Bahrain as an important tourism attraction on a regional and international level by enhancing its tourism infrastructure and by working to attract prominent international events that engage a large number of tourists.
In the first quarter of 2019 alone, a total of 3.2 million visitors arrived in Bahrain with 2.8 million entering from King Fahad Causeway, and around 400 thousand through Bahrain international Airport and Khalifa bin Salman Port. The Kingdom of Bahrain is on track to achieve 15 million visitors a year by 2022 based on the performance of the hospitality sector.
Global connectivity and a business-friendly environment has cemented the Kingdom of Bahrain as a preferred regional and global business destination for many years. Long known for being the centre of the region’s fishing and pearling industry, Muharraq has a rich history of trade and commerce with the outside world. Until 1923, Muharraq was the capital of Bahrain and served as a nerve centre for political, cultural and social interactions.
Today, Muharraq’s vibrant past can be seen in the carefully preserved architecture within local homes and mosques. The old pearling route area for instance has now been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting many tourists eager to capture the area’s old world ambience.
Diyar Al Muharraq is one of the largest, most visionary and progressive urban developments in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The project is an all-encompassing, fully-integrated master-planned city spanning an overall area of 12 SQ KM, comprising 7 islands spread across 10 SQ KM of reclaimed land, on the northern shores of Muharraq.
